It has been a whirlwind in the 10 weeks since I joined the Bay Area Host Committee. While I still have much to learn, one thing that’s become apparent is that the word “growth” is a constant in the Bay Area. That’s what drew me to the Bay Area back in 2006, and now to the position with the Bay Area Host Committee. The opportunity to showcase the Bay Area, not only for its unique spirit and diversity, but also carry the torch forward in showing what an incredible destination for world class events across sports and entertainment it truly is.

Over the weekend, the Bay Area 2026 Host Committee successfully completed its scheduled visit from the FIFA host city inspection delegation as part of the continued efforts to bring the FIFA World Cup 2026™ to the Bay Area. Making its first and only in-person visit to the Bay Area ahead of the official host city selection announcement expected in early 2022, the delegation consisted of nearly 30 international football executives from FIFA, Concacaf, U.S. Soccer, and the Canadian Soccer Association.

The meeting with FIFA and U.S. Soccer followed a virtual Candidate Host Community Workshop staged by the two governing bodies of soccer on July 7th.

United Bid Selected to Host the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The United Bid of Canada, Mexico, and the United States was selected to host the 2026 FIFA World CupTM earlier on Wednesday by the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. The Bay Area, featuring Levi’s Stadium, stands as one of 23 candidate host cities under consideration for the historic event. For the first time in history, FIFA’s Member Associations were given the opportunity to vote on the host for the FIFA World Cup did so by a vote of 134-65.

The San Francisco Bay Area has been included as an official Candidate Host City in the United Bid of Canada, Mexico, and the United States to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. The United Bid announced its list of 23 Candidate Host Cities that will be included in the Bid Book earlier today.
