GREEN COMMUNITIES

The Bay Area Host Committee stands for sustainability. Through our Green Communities pillar, we work to spotlight green infrastructure and spaces, champion local environmental organizations, and expand youth education to do our part in preserving the region’s natural ecosystems and ensuring future generations of Bay Area athletes have a space to play.

SUSTAINABILITY SPOTLIGHT

Save the Bay

In collaboration with the Bay Area Host Committee and NFL Green, longtime Bay Area environmental stewards Save the Bay hosted a habitat restoration event at the Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto to welcome the NFL back to the region for Super Bowl LX.

Founded in 1961, Save The Bay envisions a clean and healthy San Francisco Bay free from pollution, surrounded by thousands of acres of restored tidal marsh, and supported by the 7 million people who call the Bay Are home.

On January 31st, 2026, Save the Bay welcomed over 65 volunteers who logged 190+ collective volunteer hours to plant 100 mugwort seedlings and remove over 1,200 lbs. of invasive weeds in order to help buffer communities from rising seas and storm surge, provide vital habitats for endangered species, and filter water flowing from our cities to the Bay.

In celebration of Super Bowl LX, the Bay Area Host Committee, NFL Green, Verizon, and Canopy held a tree planting event at Kidango Ravenswood in East Palo Alto.

Created in Palo Alto in 1996, Canopy collaborates with communities such as East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View, and other neighboring areas to grow and sustain equitable urban forests for all. The event site, currently in development, is adjacent to the newly-built, BAHC-sponsored Sports for All hub at the Los Robles-Ronald McNair Field.

On February 2nd, 2026, Canopy brought together over 90 volunteers who logged over 200 collective volunteer hours to plant 17 trees that will support the well-being of early learners, their families, and the surrounding community. This event reflects a shared commitment to community investment, sustainability, and creating lasting positive impact where people live, learn, and play.
