Bay Area Host Committee Marks 30 Days to Go Until FIFA World Cup 2026™ With Region-Wide Celebrations, Community Impact, and Cultural Moments

Mountain View, CA — May 12, 2026 —  With just 30 days until the world arrives, the Bay Area stands ready to once again take center stage as the sports capital of the world. In an unprecedented 18-month stretch that has included four major global sporting events, the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be the most unifying chapter yet - bringing together communities across the Bay Area’s counties, cultures, and cities while welcoming the world into our home.  

To mark the countdown, the Bay Area Host Committee (BAHC) is launching a dynamic series of activations, celebrations, and community-driven initiatives — from regional flag raisings and global cultural programming to youth investment and fan experiences — all designed to showcase the spirit, diversity, and innovation that only the Bay Area can offer. 

A Region United: “30 Days to Go” Flag Raising Celebration, presented by Prologis

Today, the BAHC will lead a coordinated, multi-city flag raising ceremony across San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Clara, San Jose, Redwood City, County of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Bay Area airports SFO, OAK and SJC. More than just a countdown, the moment symbolizes the BAHC’s mission to unite the Bay Area through sport, signaling the Bay Area’s collective pride and unity as a Host Region, as we prepare for the world’s biggest sporting event. 

BAHC Speaker Series: The Art of the Global Game

As the countdown continues, BAHC will host a Speaker Series to spotlight the intersection of sport, culture, and creativity through the theme “The Art of the Global Game.” The event will take place in Oakland at the Rotunda on May 18 in collaboration with the Oakland Roots, Bay FC and the San Jose Earthquakes, focusing on how Bay Area sports teams and organizations are partnering with leading voices in fashion, design, and art to drive local economic, social, and environmental impact.  

Speakers include Zaileen Janmohamed (President & CEO, BAHC), Edreece Arghandiwal (Co-Founder & CMO, Oakland Roots ), Serena Marini (Senior Director of Creative Strategy & Design, Bay FC), Omri Gal (Founder & Executive Director, Design FC), Angelina Narvaez (iHeartMedia host, 94.9), Leslie Osborne (former USWNT player and Co-Founder, Bay FC) and Megan Schoettmer (Regional President of Northern CA, PNC Bank). By elevating local creatives and global narratives, the event positions the region as a cultural centerpiece on the world stage. This event is invite-only and supported by PNC Bank. 

Local Bay Area Sports Team Celebrations

From the pitch at PayPal Park to the hardwood at Chase Center and the field at Oracle Park, BAHC will be engaging with fans to generate excitement in the final few weeks before the World Cup. Catch BAHC at upcoming games and matches including Bay FC, the San Jose Earthquakes and Oakland Roots, the San Francisco Giants, and the Golden State Valkyries as we celebrate our mission to unite the Bay Area through sport. 

Iconic Installations and Arrival Moments

Fans and visitors will experience the World Cup spirit across the region through immersive installations: 

  • A giant version of the adidas Trionda match ball will be installed in San Pedro Square on May 29, serving as a central fan gathering point throughout the tournament.  

  • PIER 39 will have a permanent photo opportunity for fans to take pictures in front of a life-sized soccer ball. 

  • At San Francisco International Airport, arriving visitors will be welcomed by holographic experiences featuring Bay Area legend Brandi Chastain and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, bringing the excitement of the tournament to life from the moment fans land.  

Team Base Camp Community Days

The Bay Area will also host a series of FIFA Team Base Camp Community Days, connecting local residents with international teams: 

  • Australia: June 3  

  • Paraguay: early June (TBC) 

These events are designed to foster community pride and global connection through public training experiences, youth engagement, and cultural exchange — giving locals a “second team” to support while creating lasting impact beyond the tournament. Registration information on both events will be released soon. 

World Record for the Planet

On June 6, the Bay Area will join a global movement through the “Count Us In” campaign, attempting to set a Guinness World Record with 20,000 participants simultaneously performing a 10-second keepie-uppie. Local activations will take place in Oakland and the South Bay, uniting fans around the world through a shared love of the game and a commitment to sustainability. Learn more here

Unveiling the Newest Sports for All Hub at LIFE Academy and United for Success Academy in Oakland

On June 9, BAHC will unveil its latest Sports for All initiative with a ribbon cutting at LIFE Academy and United for Success Academy in Oakland. This transformative project delivers a fully renovated, community-centered turf pitch to the Fruitvale neighborhood — an area with deep need and strong community roots. 

The project replaces a heavily used field originally built through grassroots advocacy led by students and local coach Dania Cabello. The new pitch will serve as a hub for year-round programming in partnership with organizations like Eat.Learn.Play, Oakland Genesis and the Oakland Athletic League. 

The opening celebration will include the EA SPORTS FC FUTURES Festival of Football, bringing together students, families, and community leaders to celebrate a lasting investment in youth and sport. As a supporter of the Sports for All hub, EA SPORTS has contributed to the development of the pitch through its EA SPORTS FC FUTURES initiative. This marks the third Sports For All Hub supported by BAHC partners EA SPORTS, Genentech, Kaiser Permanente, PG&E Corporation Foundation, PNC Bank, and Prologis

Countdown to Kickoff

On June 10, BAHC will officially kick off the tournament with a regional celebration and media event, setting the stage for a historic summer across the Bay Area. 

Fan Zones & Opening Week Celebrations

Once the tournament begins, Fan Zones across the Bay Area will transform public spaces into vibrant hubs for watch parties, live entertainment, and community celebration. View the full calendar of local community events here

In San Francisco, fans will come together for celebratory Fan Marches into Thrive City, culminating in high-energy watch parties for two marquee matches:

Exclusive Merchandise Collaborations

Fans can gear up for the tournament with limited-edition merchandise collaborations, including LACES’ “The World’s Game Hat” and a custom World Cup patch by Tommy Breeze. Select items will be available online and at Fan Zones throughout the region, giving supporters a chance to represent the Bay Area on the global stage. 

Official FIFA Stores: Gear Up Across the Bay

Fans can shop for official tournament merchandise at retail stores across the region, including Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Costco, Dicks Sporting Goods and 7-Eleven, creating accessible destinations to gear up ahead of and throughout the tournament. Traveling fans can also pick up gear at airport shops when they arrive at SFO, OAK, and SJC. 

Official FIFA Stores will be announced in the coming weeks and will open early June. These retail hubs will give fans the opportunity to purchase official merchandise and take part in the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in a tangible way.
