Bay Area Host Committee Announces Next Sports for All Field Refurbishment in East Palo Alto
NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, stopped by Los Robles Ronald McNair Academy field over the weekend to meet with local East Palo Alto officials and members of the Academy flag football team ahead of the groundbreaking for the refurbished field and new BAHC Sports for All hub.
Mountain View, CA — September 26, 2025 — The Bay Area Host Committee (BAHC) announced today its intention to refurbish the athletic field at Los Robles Ronald McNair Academy in East Palo Alto, marking the next major step in its cornerstone Sports for All initiative. This project demonstrates BAHC’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive, accessible, and community-driven sports spaces throughout the Bay Area.
The new sports hub in East Palo Alto will transform the only football-sized field available to the city’s 28,000 residents. The field borders three schools and the Boys & Girls Club, providing crucial access to year-round, youth-focused sports programming in partnership with the Ravenswood School District, Mastodons Youth Football, and other community organizations.
“Sports for All is about more than just facilities—it’s about creating opportunity, belonging, and pathways for our youth to thrive,” said Zaileen Janmohamed, President & CEO of the Bay Area Host Committee. “We are honored to partner with the East Palo Alto community and Ravenswood School District to deliver a space that will serve as a beacon for sport, learning, and community connection for years to come.”
The East Palo Alto project continues the momentum from BAHC’s initial Sports for All hub at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School in San Francisco, where early results have shown a 26% increase in students’ sense of belonging and expanded access to high-quality sports and educational programming.
Sports for All is BAHC’s landmark initiative aimed at transforming access to sport across the region. A community-focused program receiving support from BAHC sponsors EA SPORTS, Kaiser Permanente, PG&E Corporation Foundation, and PNC Bank, Sports for All will develop nine interconnected sports hubs, one in each Bay Area County, that will become venues for year-round programming, leadership training, and enhanced connectivity to major sporting events coming to the region.
“This new field will be a game-changer for our students and families,” said William Eger, Assistant Superintendent of Ravenswood School District. “It’s not just about sport—it's about equity, empowerment, and giving our community a safe and inspiring place to come together. We are grateful for BAHC’s vision and partnership.”
The $4.2 million refurbishment is supported by a coalition of community partners and funders, including the City of East Palo Alto, BAHC Foundation Donors, NFL Legacy Grant, Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, 49ers Foundation and Ravenswood Education Foundation. The project is breaking ground this month, with completion targeted for early 2026.
“Every young person deserves a safe and welcoming place to play, practice teamwork, and build confidence,” said Justin Prettyman, Executive Director of the 49ers Foundation. “On behalf of the 49ers Foundation Board of Directors, we're excited to partner with the Bay Area Host Committee, NFL, and local officials to refurbish this field, as an investment into the future of our community.”
As part of the lead-up to Super Bowl LX, the East Palo Alto Sports for All hub will also host unique events and activations with the NFL, 49ers Foundation, and local legends, amplifying the power of sport to unite and uplift.
