NBA All-Star 2025: A Slam Dunk Start to the Bay Area's 18-Month Global Sports Showcase

Mountain View, CA (Tuesday, February 18, 2025)

The Bay Area Host Committee (BAHC) wrapped up an action-packed week in the Bay Area, celebrating the successful hosting of NBA All-Star 2025, the first in an unprecedented lineup of global sporting events the region will host over the next 18 months.

The week kicked off on Wednesday, February 12, with the BAHC Tip-Off Event at Chase Center, where the BAHC officially launched the BAHC Foundation in the presence of key leaders, partners, media, and community stakeholders. This milestone marked the start of a new era focused on creating lasting community impact beyond the games, with the core pillars of Workforce Equity & Advancement, Sports for All & Sports for Change, and Cultivating Green Communities.

At the Tip-Off, attendees heard from notable speakers such as Mayor Daniel Lurie and NBA Deputy Commissioner and COO Mark Tatum. The event also featured a panel discussion focused on legacy, with panelists including Sam Cobbs (Tipping Point CEO), Andrea Hopelain (EA Sports SVP), and Danielle Slaton (Bay FC SVP). The discussion highlighted key programs under the BAHC Foundation's first pillar of Workforce Equity & Advancement, including Bridge to Work, designed to provide employment pathways for 500 individuals with a pilot of 50 participants at NBA All-Star 2025.

On Thursday, February 13, BAHC launched its first-ever Speaker Series, kicking off with "Sports x Impact: How Women’s Sports Are Leading Change" at the Golden State Valkyries Performance Center. The invite-only event featured powerhouse speakers including Cathy Engelbert (WNBA Commissioner), Jess Smith (Golden State Valkyries President and BAHC Board Member), and Charmin Smith (Cal Women’s Basketball Head Coach). The panel explored the growth of women’s sports, investment in equity, and the evolving role of sports in shaping future generations. This series will continue over the next 18 months, amplifying thought leadership around sports and community impact.

On Friday, February 14, BAHC hosted the Tech Summit Luncheon, following the NBA Tech Summit. The luncheon continued the conversations around the transformative impact of technology on sports, highlighting how innovation is shaping the future of fan engagement, athletic performance, and event experiences.

“NBA All-Star 2025 marked the successful start of an extraordinary journey for the Bay Area,” said Janmohamed. “As the first of three global events, it set the stage for what’s ahead—proving that through sport, we can create experiences that inspire, connect, and leave a lasting legacy for our communities.”

Building on the momentum from NBA All-Star 2025, the BAHC now sets its sights on Super Bowl LX and FIFA World Cup 26™. Through strategic partnerships and community-centered initiatives, the BAHC aims to continue to deliver events that entertain, uplift, and create opportunities for the Bay Area.
